POP
Well I was there on the day,
The Heavens took my hero away,
I knew the moment his soul,
Was carried away under God’s control,
Leaving me behind in a bereaved confusion,
For his days on this earth had reached its final conclusion,
And mourn I did,
For there was nobody more splendid,
He was amazing to me and I found him most astounding,
Today when I think of him my heart can’t help from pounding,
He set the bar high as to what a man should be,
Each day I grow older I hope this world sees a bit of him in me,
He was always one to speak his mind,
At the same time, good in everyone he could find,
Wise words and love he instilled in me,
Setting an example for myself to strive to be,
He had a laugh that was ever so contagious,
And a sense of humor for all ages,
He spoke with authority and had a firm hand,
And never was there a day he wasn’t tending his land,
Now I see him so much within my own dad,
Hard working and kind, never saying anything bad,
For my pop talks the talk,
More importantly he walks the walk,
In the same shoes my hero once did,
I have another hero just as splendid,
For he and I may have different points of view,
That still doesn’t change the fact that Pop, I do love you.
