THE SANDS OF TIME
She’s probably on a beach somewhere dancing through the sands of time,
One thing I know for sure is that tonight she’s dancing through my mind,
I know I lost her years ago,
She was never meant to have a tamed soul,
Her spirit is vividly wild,
And she enjoys life with the vigor of a child,
It’s bittersweet, but for a while I was able to call her mine,
I can still smell her perfume, a blend of rose, apple, musk and jasmine,
I remember waking up next her and being greeted with a smile,
She had a way of making the burdens of life all seem worthwhile,
I remember the Sunday drives we’d take with the top down,
Singing along to our favorite tunes, and stopping along in some border town,
She’d always have me buy her the oddest of things,
We once stood on a cliff in New Mexico and exchange mood rings,
That was the closest we got to saying “I do.”
Yet the love I had for that girl was nothing but true,
The memories of her will forever last,
She’s the one pure recollection I love to reflect upon from my past,
Tonight she floods my every thought,
For those moments with her could never be bought,
I’m sure she’s on a beach somewhere dancing through the sands of time,
One thing I know for sure is that tonight she’s dancing through my mind.
