NEVER GROW UP (A SAGE’S ADVICE)

NEVER GROW UP (A SAGE’S ADVICE)

Don’t go and try to grow up so fast,

Because the innocence of youth doesn’t last,

This world is cruel and callous place,

Never would I want to see the pure smile leave your face,

There’s a bitterness in some that will turn you cold,

Lessons in life you learned unfortunately as you grow old,

So do me a favor,

Every second of your youth please savor,

Stay naïve to simplicities of living,

Make the best of all opportunities you are given,

Keep singing lullabies at night,

While snuggled with your favorite stuffed animal so tight,

Because soon enough you’ll experience heartache,

We who are older know, so this advice please take,

For my heart will break too the day you find love’s pain,

At that point, complete trust in it you’ll never truly regain,

There are those who will hurt you without remorse,

Forever altering your life’s course,

I’m not telling you all of this to scare you,

I’m only asking you to remain true,

To your heart and soul,

And with this wisdom may you know,

What to do in any given circumstance,

When you have a dream, take the chance,

Someday you’ll find yourself caught between fools and sages,

Always choose the astute for the sins of the fool steep are the wages,

That’s enough talk tonight,

Go now and romp in delight,

Let your imagination run wild,

And forever keep in your heart memories of a child.
