BREAKING THE SILENCE

BREAKING THE SILENCE

Tonight she’s breaking the silence,

No more justifying his acts of violence,

She’s been beaten, battered and bruised,

No longer can she be abused,

By someone who is suppose to love her.

Too much of this she’s let occur,

Now it’s time to break her silence,

No more allowing of this violence,

She tells herself it’s for her own good,

She doesn’t deserve this, nobody should,

After this last incident she no longer fears,

With each step down the hallway her bruised eyes fill with tears.

She keeps telling herself it’s not revenge, it’s justice,

And she knows that she’ll face the consequences,

She’s reached the end of the hallway, can she cross that line?

With his back to her in his chair he thinks all of this is fine,

Like it’s some sort of God given right,

To have beaten her so badly tonight.

The line is there, now is her chance,

Just one foot forward to make her stance,

Her trembling arms raise up his favorite gun,

This time nobody can hide or run,

It’s a grave choice, but a brave choice,

This isn’t just for her, it’s for those who also feel her pain,

As she steps forward she knows she can’t go back again.

A single shot breaks the night’s silence,

No more will she suffer at the hands of his violence.
