RELUCTANT THOUGHTS

RELUCTANT THOUGHTS

There seems to be a reluctancy in her voice,

Maybe a reconsideration in her choice,

One she made in her vows all those years ago,

Second thoughts swimming throughout her head,

As she lies next to him in bed,

He kisses her cheek and quietly says, “I love you.”

As he rolls over, that same pause is in her “I love you, too.”

He’s sound asleep unknowing of her doubt,

She looks at him wondering what he’s dreaming about,

Her conscience is running abound,

Mostly curious as to if this life with him is the best to be found,

He’s a good husband and father, but is there a better man?

She’s pondered that thought as much as she can,

Every night as they go bed,

The same question of a better man enters her head,

He’s always been there for her throughout the years,

They’ve shared moments of laughter and ones of tears,

Every morning he wakes her with a kiss,

He’s a good man, so she wonders why she must think like this,

Second thoughts are killing her sanity,

Is this all in regards to insecurities and vanity?

She recalls the past fifteen years the best she can,

With recollections full, she realizes she couldn’t find a better man.
