WHEN LIFE WAS BEAUTIFUL

WHEN LIFE WAS BEAUTIFUL

Summertime is getting near,

Float trips, fairs and hanging with your buddies, drinking beer,

Take me back to those days,

When life was beautiful in so many ways,

Walking along the amusement park with her hand in mine,

She’d smile at me wearing those silly sunglasses, Oh how she did shine,

Her hair in a ponytail, she in her tank top with cut-offs on,

Her skin darkened by her days in the sun,

That girl had the key to my heart, but I never let her know it,

I fell in love with her, but was too stubborn to show it,

I think she knew though, she could always read me,

We spent the summer nights with our backs on a blanket, searching the galaxy,

We made plans for the future under those starry skies,

But we were merely kids and promises became lies,

We made them with the best intentions though,

Who’s to say then what we now know,

She was a heart that had no equal,

Unfortunately, our little book had no sequel,

Yet every time the summer nears, I think of her,

And I wonder if thoughts of me in her mind begin to stir,

How I wish I could go back to those days,

When life was beautiful in so many ways.
