THAT SUMMER
We spent that summer hand in hand,
Walking along those sun soaked beaches barefoot in the sand,
She stole my heart with a sultry kiss,
I go back to that season and reminisce,
About the essence of it all,
And how deep for her I’d fall,
You never forget your first love so true,
Neither the heartache when it was through,
For that whole summer the Midwest was calling my name,
As for her, college was just the same,
We lived for every moment together we could,
Those southern Carolina beaches hold our memories where we once stood,
Memories of waking up to the sound of the incoming waves,
As she lay in my arms watching the sunrise through the morning haze,
I’d whisper that I’d love her for all of time,
She’d smile and say it back in kind,
Though we both knew our time would soon be ending,
Up until that last kiss constant vibes we were sending,
I’ve yet to see eyes any more pure,
Simple to say they were blue, but to me they were azure,
Perfection indeed,
You’d had to see to believe,
We swore we’d keep in touch,
But I guess we got lost in life and such,
One thing is for sure that summer never did we part,
That summer I’ll never forget, because it’s the first time a woman stole my heart.
