MY RIPTIDE (THE CHARACTER OF ME)

MY RIPTIDE (THE CHARACTER OF ME)

I have my moments of worry of being caught up in life’s undertow,

But I always remind myself that now I ride my own riptide’s flow,

I became sick of everybody else,

And decided to play the part of myself,

It may be a play of a man on a rollercoaster journey,

Ups and downs ever circling on a path, yet you pay your money,

Whether you’ve never rode before it’s something new,

It will leave you guessing at every turn as to what it’s going to do,

Or if you’ve seen the play a thousand times you know it all,

The main character suffers from tragedies and has everyday flaws,

But it’s not just a tragedy, a comedy too,

A jester am I, here to please you,

With a laugh, a smile,

Any joy I can bring another makes my life worthwhile,

And if ever after the show you happen to be backstage,

Don’t be afraid to come up and greet me, in fact I encourage,

But as I wipe the heavy make-up from my face in the mirror,

Don’t be alarmed should you see a tear,

For in my character runs a gamut of emotions,

As you could tell by the audience’s commotion,

For I lay it all on the line,

That’s why you’ll never again find,

Me caught up in life’s undertow,

For now I ride my own riptide’s flow.
