GIRL IN THE RED DRESS
Years ago a beautiful girl in a red dress,
This little blonde haired boy was so eager to impress,
I remember the red barrettes holding back hair dark with sheen,
Her fair skin, her beauty within left me with a fondness so keen.
Through the years we watched each other grow,
Yet my boyish crush could I never let go,
It always remained in the back of my mind,
Now here lately to the forefront it I do find,
Though it be through pictures and written words,
I cannot help but to get lost in the “what ifs” of her,
What if she were here?
Would she let me hold her near?
What if she gave me a chance?
Would she actually do me the honor of a dance?
What if I leaned in for a kiss?
Would she grant me my boyhood wish?
It’s amazing how time can fade most memories of the past,
Yet some remain ever so vivid and tend to last,
My heart still holds a spot for that girl in the red dress,
And if ever she reads this I hope the words of this blonde haired boy do impress.
