BLUE EYES FOR A SEASON

BLUE EYES FOR A SEASON

Although we only lasted for a season,

Her blue eyes are the reason,

Why I keep chasing down this dream,

For those blue eyes have a hold on me it seems,

We’d walk together hand in hand,

Along those beaches, barefoot in the sand,

I always knew she’d fly away,

Angels like that never seem to stay,

Lying there along the shores as the sun set beyond the sea,

I told her that I loved her, “I know” was her reply to me,

Silly I know, to think I could harness a spirit so wild,

I suppose that’s the difference between a man and a child,

There was always something sexy in her smile,

It was untamed perfection if only for a while,

I’d give her piggyback rides along the evening shore,

And her kisses always left me begging for more,

Especially the long one goodbye,

It left us both with a tear in our eye,

It’s been nearly twenty years since I left that place,

Yet even now thinking of her puts a smile upon my face,

I often wonder what has become of her today,

Do memories of us cross her thoughts somehow, someway?

I will forever carry with me our shared moment in time,

Even if just for a season, those blue eyes were all mine.
