AMONGST THE STARS (A tribute to my Grandpa)

Amidst the stars in heaven,

Nearly seven years gone you’ve been.

Not a day goes by that my heart doesn’t weep,

Memories of you, I’ll forever keep.

Days go by where I’m seeking a lifeline,

And I know that often you are mine,

Since the day you passed,

My life has become a contrast,

To the one you knew of me.

And in those heavens I know you can see,

All that I’ve been through.

There’s been pain and times of happiness too,

But it seems the pain has been in constant control,

Fears too, have overcome my soul.

I wish I could reach out and touch you,

Every dream of you I wish would come true.

You touched and molded my life in so many ways,

You brought a smile to my face on my worst days.

In your stories were words to live by,

Often I fail those words but I always try,

Try to live up to what you would have expected.

All because in you was a man I loved and respected.

I cannot verbalize how much you are truly missed,

But Grandpa, the following is true I do insist,

I know that you were amongst the stars tonight,

And I know that you were shining ever so bright.
